About the artist Cathy Styles
When Cathy arrived in Manchester in 2017 she felt she was witnessing a city transforming and reinventing itself and from that moment she developed an obsession with capturing it as it is happening now – huge temporary metal structures against once dominant longstanding redbrick buildings and cranes, cranes everywhere.
Quickly drawn in pen and watercolour these emotive snapshots convey the delight of wet pavements and familiar buildings dramatically and suddenly lit by the variable northern weather. The loose rhythmic drawing of the skylines alongside the tight detail of the canal and rail bridges emphasises an exciting and changing world. Styles has distilled all her years of painting and drawing into expressing the charm and wonder of this place at this moment.
She has lived and painted in South Africa, Egypt, Germany and UK, studied and painted with various teachers including the Open College of the Arts. Her print "Salford" was selected for the first HOME an Artist exhibition in 2020 which represented 453 artists from Manchester and she sells her prints locally at various craft fairs.
Limited edition numbered Giclee prints on environmentally friendly Hahnem Bamboo fine art paper are available in a variety of sizes to order. A donation will be made to the Society for Abandoned Animals for each print sold. All prints are signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
